Twig necklace hand sculpted with leaves, seed pods and berries

Product Code: 31483f

Stock Level: 1

One of a kind hand sculpted twig necklace featuring tiny naturalistic details like leaves, berries, seed pods, tendrils and even a tiny ladybird has found a home amongst the natural details.

The central curved feature of this unique necklace has been entirely and painstakingly hand crafted by me in metal clay and features a curved and textured twig with tiny side branches, adorned with tiny hand crafted leaves and a thin tendril winds its way around the branch, alongside tiny open seedpods and berries.

The necklace has been made by me in a pink bronze metal clay called Desert Sun, which has a high copper content, but is officially a bronze.  So I think it would satisfy both requirements for either a bronze, or copper piece.

This special one of a kind piece represents many hours of painstaking work with tweezers and a magnifier to hand sculp and place the components and is worked on in several stages over a few days and this level of work is consequently represented in the price.

The central twig section measures 85mm (3.35") across and is around 6mm (¼") at its widest.   The twig component is set into a length of  nice quality belcher chain and the length will be fnished to order for you, so please let me have your required necklace length during checkout - I would suggest that it is worn at collarbone length, so something in the region of 17" or 18" overall.

What is metal clay?

Metal clay (now available in base metals like copper, bronze, iron, steel and brass and precious metals like silver and even gold) is a clay like medium made from tiny particles of metal, combined with an organic binder and made into a pliable clay or paste with water. After working with the clay-like medium to form the article, it is thoroughly dried to remove all of the water, the shape is further refined and then fired at very high temperature in a kiln to both burn off the binders and to cause the metal particles to fuse together as solid metal - this firing takes a full day to complete - at which time I tend to work with crossed fingers, hoping that the kiln gods are smiling on me that day and it fires successfully.   Not everything does.
