This is a rather special antiqued copper and red jasper cabochon leaf themed pendant which is one of a kind and comes with a pair of matching red jasper bead earrings.
The pendant is a substantial piece of jewellery of some weight (21g) and features a large cabochon of red jasper nestling in a bed of tiny leaves, tendrils and tiny solid copper balls. It has been entirely hand crafted by me from copper clay. The process starts with a session with a pencil, paper, calculator and the application of some geometry and once I start making it, I form the base first, which is the same shape as the cabochon.
I made a selection of tiny individual leaves, tendrils and balls which were painstakingly applied with tweezers and a magnifier and taking many hours of work. The looped bail was made as a separate piece and has subsequently been shaped and riveted to the main body of the pendant. The reverse of the pendant also has a circle of matching leaves and tendrils and can been seen in the additional photographs.
The pendant is complimented by a pair of elegant matching earrings, comprising a long oval charm featuring the same leaves and details and the pendant, hanging below a pair of matching red jasper beads. These can be seen, both on their own and alongside the pendant for scale in the additional photographs. The pieces represent very labour intensive techniques over many days and this is reflected in the price.
Sizes:
The pendant drops 52mm (2") from the chain and is 34mm (1.35") at its widest. The red jasper cabochon is 25mm (1") by 18mm (0.7").
The earrings drop 51mm (2") overall from the top of the straight drop earwires and they are 6mm (¼") at their widest.
I suggest two chain lengths:
I would suggest that the pendant could either be worn at the throat within the neckline of clothing, or longer over the top of a garment. To this end I will supply the pendant with two chains - one for each type of wear. I would suggest something in the areas of 18" and 30" - but please do specify your own preferences in the comment box during checkout. The chains will be a really nice quality heavy weight antiqued copper belcher (rollo) chain which fastens with my own hand crafted hook and loop clasp.
What is copper clay:
Copper clay is a clay like medium made from tiny particles of copper, combined with an organic binder and made into a pliable clay or paste with water. After working with the clay-like medium to form the article, it is thoroughly dried to remove all of the water, the shape is further refined and then fired at very high temperature in a kiln to both burn off the binders and to cause the copper particles to fuse together as solid metal.
