Hand sculpted twig pendant set with cubic zirconium gemstone

Product Code: 31490f

Stock Level: 1

Hand sculpted twig pendant featuring tiny individually made naturalistic details including leaves, berries, side branches, seed pods and wrapped tendrils.  There is even a tiny ladybird scampering over the twig.  The twig branches at the bottom and nestled in the vee of the resulting branch is a very pale lavender coloured cubic zirconium gemstone.

The one of a kind pendant hangs from a copper bail and from a nice quality copper belcher chain.  The pendant has been antiqued to bring out the textures of the wood, leaf veins and tiny details. It hangs 52mm (2") overall in height and is 15mm (0.6") at its widest near the base.   The chain fastens with my own hook and loop clasp and would be made to order for you at the length you would like.  If a size isn't specified, it would be sent at 18" (460mm) as a default size.

The necklace has been made by me in a pink bronze metal clay called Desert Sun, which has a high copper content, but is officially a bronze.  So I think it would satisfy both requirements for either a bronze, or copper piece.  This special piece represents many hours of painstaking work with tweezers and a magnifier to hand sculp and place the components and is worked on in several stages over a few days and this level of work is consequently represented in the price.

What is metal clay?

Metal clay (now available in base metals like copper, bronze, iron, steel and brass and precious metals like silver and even gold) is a clay like medium made from tiny particles of metal, combined with an organic binder and made into a pliable clay or paste with water. After working with the clay-like medium to form the article, it is thoroughly dried to remove all of the water, the shape is further refined and then fired at very high temperature in a kiln to both burn off the binders and to cause the metal particles to fuse together as solid metal - this firing takes a full day to complete - at which time I tend to work with crossed fingers, hoping that the kiln gods are smiling on me that day and it fires successfully.   Not everything does.
