Where a pendant is already supplied on a chain and is ready to wear, it will appear in both the necklace and pendant categories, so there will be some duplication.

I would designate a piece to be a pendant if it could be worn on different chains or thongs, other than the one it is supplied with.  In those cases, the internal diameter of the bail is usually noted so that you can establish if it would fit on other necklaces you already have.  Remember to consider that at least one end of the clasp has to be able to pass through the bail, as well as the chain itself.
