Fir cone textured copper clay pendant on chain

Hand crafted one of a kind oval copper clay pendant, textured with a hand drawn fir cone design. It hangs on a quality belcher / rollo chain from a hidden integral bail on the back of the pendant.

I've always been intrigued by fir cones, I can't resist their natural geometric sculpture. I often collect them in my pockets on walks and have a house full of such woodland mementos. I photographed a particularly uniform specimen and this photograph formed the basis of the design, from which I traced and hand drew my own texture plate, with its own edging border and used this to texture the copper clay. Which was then curved to enhance the idea of a fir cone design.

I've created a discreet little bail loop on the back of the pendant to allow it to hang unseen on the included chain. The pendant has been antiqued to highlight the design. It is also perhaps more polished and shiny than it looks in the photos - the diffuse lighting I use to ensure that you can clearly see the details in pieces sometimes kills the shine a little too efficiently.

The pendant is 39mm (1½") overall in height and hangs 35mm (1.4") below the antiqued copper rollo/belcher chain. The oval is 17mm (0.66") at its widest. The chain will be made to order for you, up to a length of 762mm (30"), so please specify your requirements during checkout.

What is copper clay:

Copper clay is a clay-like medium made from tiny particles of copper, combined with an organic binder and made into a pliable clay or paste with water. After working with the clay-like medium to form the piece, it is thoroughly dried to remove all of the water, the shape is further refined to a finish and then fired at high temperature to both burn off the binders and to cause the copper particles to fuse together as solid metal.
