Faux amber cabochon and leaf theme pendant

A one of a kind antiqued copper pendant on chain, which features a glossy round and deeply domed cabochon of faux Chinese amber made from polymer clay.  The cabochon is leaf-set to the chunky base and the pendant also has appliqued decoration on the reverse, allowing it to be worn both ways.

The pendant features a large glossy cabochon that I have made from polymer clay to mimic the appearance of Chinese amber with its fissures and dark cracks of matrix.   The cabochon has been set into the pendant with a circle of tiny hand sculpted leaves, interspersed with tiny appliqued balls of solid copper.  The leaves gently curve over the edges of the cabochon dome to hold it securely in place.  

The cabochon has been extensively hand sanded and buffed to a glass like surface finish and been varnished with around a dozen thin layers of acrylic varnish to protect it and maintain the high gloss finish.

The pendant can also be worn on the reverse side which can be seen by selecting [+] More Images.  This features a hand appliqued pattern of leaves and swirls.  The details are individually hand formed and painstakingly applied with tweezers and a magnifier and taking many hours of work.  

The pendant hangs from a single chunky twisted looped bail, which is also adorned with tiny balls and leaves.

Size:

The pendant drops 37mm (1.45") from the chain and is 33mm (1.3") at its widest.  The dome of the cabochon makes the pendant 12mm (½") deep at the centre.

I suggest two chain lengths:

I would suggest that the pendant could either be worn at the throat within the neckline of clothing, or longer over the top of a garment.  To this end I will supply the pendant with two chains - one for each type of wear.  

I would suggest a finer chain something in the area of 18" long and a heavier matching chain around 30" - but please do specify your own preferences in the comment box during checkout.  The chains will be a really nice quality antiqued copper belcher (rollo) chain which fastens with my own hand crafted hook and loop clasp.  If you would prefer a leather thong or cord for the shorter version, that could be done too, please see a suggested alternative in the additional photographs.


What is copper clay:

Copper clay is a clay like medium made from tiny particles of copper, combined with an organic binder and made into a pliable clay or paste with water. After working with the clay-like medium to form the article, it is thoroughly dried to remove all of the water, the shape is further refined and then fired at very high temperature in a kiln to both burn off the binders and to cause the copper particles to fuse together as solid metal.
