Faux green jade cabochon and leaf themed pendant

This is a one of a kind antiqued copper and faux jade leaf-set pendant on chain.  The pendant features a glossy oval shaped domed cabochon of faux green jade made from polymer clay.  The cabochon has been set to the pendant with tiny delicate leaves and the reverse features an appliqued decoration of curling leaf fronds, allowing it to be worn both ways.

The pendant features an oval cabochon that I have made from polymer clay to mimic the appearance of green jade with natural inclusions and a delicate translucent marbled texture.   The cabochon has been set into the pendant with a collection of tiny hand sculpted leaves, interspersed with tiny appliqued balls of solid copper.  The leaves gently curve over the edges of the cabochon dome to hold it securely in place.  

The cabochon has been extensively hand sanded and buffed to a glass like surface finish and been varnished with around a dozen thin layers of acrylic varnish to protect it and maintain the high gloss finish.

The pendant can also be worn on the reverse side which can be seen by selecting [+] More Images.  This features a hand appliqued pattern of curling leaf fronds and even smaller leaves.  The details are individually hand formed and painstakingly applied one at a time with tweezers and a magnifier and a piece such as this takes very many hours of delicate work.  

The pendant hangs from a single chunky twisted looped bail, which is also adorned with tiny balls and leaves.  Please see some of the additional close up photographs to appreciate the details.

Size:

The pendant drops 38mm (1½") from the chain and is 18mm (0.7") at its widest.  The dome of the cabochon makes the pendant 9mm (0.35") deep at the centre.

I suggest two chain lengths:

I would suggest that the pendant could either be worn at the throat within the neckline of clothing, or longer over the top of a garment.  To this end I will supply the pendant with two chains - one for each type of wear.  

I would suggest a finer chain something in the area of 17-18" long and a heavier chain around 30" - but please do specify your own preferences in the comment box during checkout.  The main chain supplied will be a nice solid copper cable chain as shown in the photographs and which fastens with my own hand crafted hook and loop clasp.  If you would prefer a leather thong or cord for the shorter version, that could be done too, please contact me to discuss your requirements.


What is copper clay:

Copper clay is a clay like medium made from tiny particles of copper, combined with an organic binder and made into a pliable clay or paste with water. After working with the clay-like medium to form the article, it is thoroughly dried to remove all of the water, the shape is further refined and then fired at very high temperature in a kiln to both burn off the binders and to cause the copper particles to fuse together as solid metal - this firing takes a full day to complete - at which time I tend to work with crossed fingers hoping that the kiln gods are smiling on me that day and it fires successfully.
